What is Autism ?

Autism is a complex developmental disorder in children, whose symptoms had occurred before the child reaches the age of three years.
The cause of autism is a neurobiological disorder that affects brain function in such a way that children are not able to interact and communicate with the outside world effectively.

Symptoms are very prominent is the attitude of children who tend not to care about the environment and people around him, as if refusing to communicate and interact, as well as live in his own world. Children with autism also have difficulty in understanding the language and communicate verbally.
Besides, often (self-stimulation behaviors) such as spinning, flapping like a wing-ngepakan hands, walking on tiptoe and so forth.
Symptoms of autism vary widely. Some children hyperactive and aggressive behavior or hurt themselves, but some are passive. They tend to be very difficult to control his emotions and often tempertantrum (crying and tantrums). Sometimes they cry, laugh or get angry for no apparent reason.
Besides different kinds of symptoms, intensity of symptoms of autism were also different, from very mild to very severe.
Because of the many differences between each individual, so this time is more common developmental disorders known as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (GSA).
Autism can happen to anyone, regardless of skin color, socioeconomic status and education. Not all individuals ASD / GSA has a low IQ. Some of them can reach in higher education. Even some who have exceptional ability in certain fields (music, mathematics, drawing).
The prevalence of autism menigkat very worrying from year to year. According to the Autism Research Institute in San Diego, the number of individuals with autism in 1987 is estimated to 1:5000 children. This number increased rapidly and in 2005 has become a 1:160 children. In Indonesia there are no accurate data because there is no central registry for autism. But in Indonesia was estimated to number close to the above figures. Autism is more common in men than women, with a ratio of 4:1
